In year 2000, Steve Dukes transitioned within CenterPoint Energy to begin his current work as Senior Supplier Diversity Coordinator. Prior to that time, Dukes gained over twenty years’ experience in energy materials management, and in contract analysis and development in such places as Colombia, Venezuela, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea and wild‘n wooly Wyoming. Personal experience along the way as a small business owner gives him empathy with small business owners.

For the past several years he has organized workshops geared to encourage the company’s prime suppliers to utilize diverse suppliers in fulfilling their contracts with CenterPoint Energy. Coordinating the Supplier Diversity effort has also included training and development of teams throughout corporate business units and tracking and reporting of the company’s diverse supplier expenditures.

Dukes also gathers and shares ideas through his working with the Accountability Committees of both the Houston Minority Development Council and the Women’s Business Enterprise Alliance. A native of Perryton in the Texas Panhandle, he graduated from Texas Tech University with a BBA in Industrial Management and completed an MBA in Finance from University of Houston. Through the Institute for Supplier Management, Dukes holds CPSM and CPSD certifications. Volunteer enjoyment includes singing in the baritone section of the Houston Symphony Chorus.

Steve had a successful brain tumorectomy for a non-malignant tumor in 2005 at MD Anderson by Dr. Raymond Sawaya.
